This is hand crafted from Shimanto Hinoki wood (Shimanto Cypress) that is usually used in housing construction- but can’t be because of too many knots in the wood, or the tree is not straight enough to be used as support beams in a house, and so on. Normally this wood would get chucked!
We pay the forest keepers 20% above market rates though to buy this, and to turn it into a beautiful product just for you.
